A Tradition Shared Through People.

The Taoist Arts Organisation was established in 1995 by a group of senior instructors following Chee Soo’s passing in 1994.

Their aim was to continue the teaching and development of the Li Family arts for future generations. That commitment continues through our instructors, students and clubs today.

Modern life places demands on both body and mind. Tension builds, movement becomes restricted, balance and coordination can suffer, and it can become difficult to find a sense of calm and connection.

At the Taoist Arts Organisation (TAO), we believe that traditional Chinese arts offer valuable ways to meet these challenges. Through movement, mindful practice and the principles of Taoism, we help people develop greater ease, strength, awareness and resilience — qualities that can support a healthier, more balanced life.

Whether you are taking your first steps or have practised for many years, our aim is to help you continue learning, deepen your understanding and discover the benefits of practice over a lifetime.

More than a set of movements…

The Li family system is a connected system and approach to health, movement and martial arts. Its different disciplines complement one another, developing qualities that extend beyond the training space and into everyday life.

Regular practice can help you:

Move with greater ease

developing mobility, coordination and more efficient movement.

Build strength and stability

improving balance, posture, body awareness and confidence.

Find calm and focus

learning to recognise tension, settle the mind and respond more thoughtfully to the pressures of life.

Develop resilience

cultivating patience, adaptability and the ability to meet challenges with greater awareness.

Maintain independence as you age

supporting movement, balance and physical confidence throughout life.

Deepen your understanding

exploring how body, mind and movement work together, with opportunities for continued learning at every stage.

The benefits are not limited to physical fitness. With consistent practice, students can develop a greater understanding of themselves, their responses and their relationship with the world around them.

…A distinctive and connected system

The Li family arts are traditionally described as the The Eight Strands of the Brocade: eight complementary disciplines woven together into a broader system of health, movement and personal development.

These include T’ai Chi, Feng Shou, Chi Shu and Shuai Jiao, alongside Kai Men and Tao Yin (Taoist Yoga). Together, they offer different ways to develop movement, martial ability, flexibility, strength, sensitivity and physical wellbeing.

Rather than being isolated practices, these arts form part of a wider, interconnected approach. Each offers its own perspective, while contributing to a deeper understanding of the whole system.

We are a community of people brought together by curiosity, shared learning and a passion for
